About This Video

Mouse pads have been getting bigger—like, a lot bigger. The first one I bought was basically a 12x12 square, and now you can get pads that cover pretty much your whole desk. In this video I break down the common mousepad sizes (small, medium, and large/XL) and the real use cases for each, so you can stop guessing and just buy the size that fits your setup and the way you play. I start with the small square pads (around 12x12), which are solid if you’re tight on desk space. Then I move to what I recommend for most people—especially gamers—the medium size. Even though it’s bigger, it doesn’t really eat up extra desk space because a lot of it sits under your keyboard, and you get way more room to move your mouse (huge if you’re running lower DPI). Finally, I talk about large/extra-large desk mats: they’re great if you want basically unlimited mouse room, but they take over your desk, so I’d only go that route if you’ve got a big desk and you’re really committed to that style. My overall pick for gamers and non-gamers alike is the medium pad because it’s the best balance of space and practicality.
