In this episode, it’s just Ted and me heading back into one of our favourite rainforest campsites in Australia. It’s still winter but it’s warming up, and after the long drive I get Ted hydrated and start setting up camp. I haven’t used my tipi tent in a while, and I forgot how easy it is—couple of pegs, one pole in the middle, and we’re done. I also test some new lights and, yes, I use them during the day. I like the ambience, I keep them on low-consumption amber mode, and it just makes the whole setup feel cozier. I arrive a bit late, but Kelly packed lunch for us (thank you!), and as the jungle gets dark Ted goes on alert with kangaroos bouncing around in the bushes. I prep the bedding, get a campfire going, and switch to the saw when the hardwood laughs at my small axe. Dinner is my old trusty transformer burner: Ted eats first so his food can cool, then I try a wrap-style meal I saw on Kelly’s “Spicy Hippo” channel—let’s pretend you didn’t see my messy wrap attempt. Next morning, I wake up grateful for places like this (Hipcamp: “A Place to call home”), make a breakfast version of the same meal, and finish it off with coffee… and an apple for Ted’s puppy eyes.
