About This Video

In this video I’m sharing exactly how I do Halloween in our homeschool—fun, cozy, and “spooky” without tipping into scary. Halloween is genuinely a fun time for our family, and I like using the weeks leading up to October 31st to lean into topics you can actually learn from: history, art, culture, and even a little psychology. I walk you through the Halloween books we pull every year (from picture books to middle school-friendly reads), plus the kinds of joke books and “try not to laugh” options that keep the vibe light and family-friendly. I also share the unit studies I use when I want Halloween to feel more intentional than just a themed read-aloud stack. I cover options like a Salem Witch Trials unit (for older kids), an “all things spooky” guide that works across ages, a mini unit on the science of fear, and an Edgar Allan Poe study for that classic spooky-season literature tie-in. If you’re trying to build a non-scary October plan—from preschool through middle school—this is my full resource list and how I weave it into our routine for a great spooky season.
