Well, call me crazy, but I headed three hours north of Perth in February (yep, still summer) to check out Sandy Cape near Jurien Bay—and I’d never been there before. I was honestly just craving something new after feeling a bit stuck spending so much of last year in Perth. I walk you through arriving, finding my site (campsite 81), and that moment where I realised I had a little path straight from my van to the beach… and the whole place completely surprised me. In this vlog I share what solo van life in WA is really like at this spot: the layout, the facilities (drop toilets, no showers, bins and sullage at the entrance), and the real summer conditions—aka the wind. It’s been so blowy that I decided not to take my inflatable SUP out, even though there’s a bay that can be sheltered once you’re tucked into the nook. I also talk through practical stuff like water setup (keeping my rainwater for drinking), cooking dinner, and a quick note on my Kickass grill—ceramic coating started coming off, but their customer service was genuinely amazing. And then there’s the best part: sleeping under the Milky Way with a cool breeze, hearing the waves, waking up to dunes out the back window… It was peaceful, packed even midweek, and honestly a place I’d highly recommend—especially if you’re into fishing, dunes, and off-grid beach camping.
