Okay people—today I went to Bunnings for a very non-van-life reason: my best friend asked me to paint a mural in her kids’ playroom, and I’ve never done a large-scale piece on someone else’s wall before. In this video I take you through the whole creative process (including a very rudimentary-but-amazing DIY projection trick), why I chose rollers for the big blocks of colour, and how I let the mural unfold instead of locking myself into a “perfect” plan. It’s part art vlog, part real-time lesson in trusting your instincts when you’re doing something new and a bit terrifying. But the deeper thread is what van life has taught me about home, belonging, and impermanence. I’ve lived solo in my van for over four years—remote work, solo travel, solo routines—so stepping into a house and being folded into someone else’s daily life was a huge contrast. It reminded me that home isn’t a place, a job, or an address… it’s the right people. And just like the mural won’t last forever as the kids grow, van life constantly reminds me that temporary doesn’t mean meaningless—it just means you show up fully while you’re there.
