Traveling solo in my van to Wallaman Falls, the highest single-drop waterfall in Australia, was an unforgettable experience. Located in Queensland’s Girringun National Park, the drive itself was filled with scenic beauty, as I passed through rolling hills, grassing cows and dense rainforest. The final stretch of the road up to the falls was winding but manageable in my van, and the views along the way were breathtaking. Arriving at the falls, I was greeted by the thunderous sound of water plunging 268 meters into the gorge below. The lookout offers a spectacular view of the falls and the surrounding landscape, which is part of the Wet Tropics World Heritage Area. As a solo female traveler, I appreciated the well-maintained facilities and safe atmosphere at the falls. For those feeling adventurous, there’s a steep hike down to the base of the falls, where you can experience the sheer power of Wallaman Falls up close. The lush rainforest surrounding the area is home to diverse wildlife, including birds and even cassowaries.
