I headed down to Parry Beach Campground near Denmark, WA because it was recommended to me by quite a few people… and honestly, it wasn’t quite what I expected. Getting there was half the story: I took the back roads through rural Western Australia (my absolute favourite), soaking up that “heart of Australia” feeling—fields, cows and sheep, old weathered farm houses—and then immediately got reminded it’s been mega windy this trip. With the “stupid pot” on my roof, I felt like I was being pushed all over the road and ended up driving 10–20ks under the limit. Once I arrived, it was a real test of my comfort zone as a solo female van lifer who values quiet and space. It’s a busy, sandy campground with sites close together, and the dust kicks up every time someone drives past. The caretaker is genuinely gold (salt of the earth), the facilities are clean, and the solar showers can be hot if you time them right—plus flushing toilets, beach access, and it’s clearly a favourite for fishos (and yes, you can take a 4WD on the beach). For me though, the crowds and constant activity sent my anxiety up, so I mostly used it as a base: adventuring during the day, then coming back later—earlier if I wanted that hot shower.
