About This Video

In this video, “Speaking Truth,” I’m keeping it all the way real about where my idea of “reality” came from. I was watching rap videos and movies—BET, MTV—seeing the money, the girls, the rims, the chains, the grills… and I wanted that life. We was poor growing up, raised without my father, single mama, catalyst for drama. So I started selling drugs at 18, then it escalated—packing pistols, robbing people at gunpoint—because I was trying to live that street life the culture made look normal. But I also speak truth about what’s really behind the image. A lot of what we call “hard” is just a mask for pain, depression, and trauma. I’ve been there—trying to impress people, copycatting what I saw, becoming an imposter because I didn’t want anybody to see the real me. Then at 22, I got busted with drugs in my car, facing 10 years, and the drugs weren’t even mine. The “friends” I thought had my back didn’t bail me out, didn’t put money on my books, didn’t visit—only my mom was there. And that’s when I tell you: sin will grip you… but it didn’t let go until I met Christ, the lover of my soul.
