Welcome back to the Drone Camps channel. In this video I’m covering what I consider some of the worst drone news we’ve seen in a while coming out of Washington DC. The big headline is that policy is shifting from the FAA’s more “educational” approach into a much more aggressive enforcement posture, and with the Safer Skies Act (Section 8605) tied into National Security Airspace under 14 CFR 99.7, the stakes can get insanely high. We’re talking penalties that can include up to 5 years in prison, major federal fines, and on a second or subsequent violation, potential felony territory under 49 USC 46307. I break down what “National Security Airspace” actually means in the real world—things like the DC perimeter, major political events, military installations, disaster response zones, nuclear facilities, VIP movement areas (moving TFRs), and other national defense infrastructure. These aren’t your typical “don’t fly here” zones—these are federally protected areas. The scary part for the FPV and drone community is how easy it is to mess up if you’re not checking airspace every time, especially with moving TFRs, and how a second mistake could push you beyond the FAA and into DOJ prosecution. This isn’t fear-mongering—this is me keeping you updated so you can stay safe and stay flying.
