About This Video

In this video I’m doing a straight-up fireside chat with you guys about a question I keep hearing in 2026: is long range FPV dead? This is not fear-mongering or clickbait. It’s an open discussion about the reality we’re flying in right now—tighter enforcement, FAA fines, pilots getting licenses revoked over maneuvers in critical airspace, and a political environment that’s shifted from “education and experimentation” (2015–2017) to “enforcement.” I talk to people in Washington DC pretty regularly, and while I’m not quoting anyone directly, I’m sharing the general sentiment I’m hearing from lawmakers and what I’m seeing in the headlines. The big change is national security. Remote ID expansion, local police departments coming online with more counter-drone (CUAS) tech, and agencies training with military/SWAT means they’re actively looking for rogue drones now—especially anything that looks like long-range activity near the US border. If you’re miles out past the horizon and your quad suddenly drops, it might not be “signal loss” anymore, and you can bet they’ll be looking for the pilot to determine intent. My takeaway: long range FPV isn’t dead, but it’s getting tighter and tighter. We can still build, innovate, and fly—just smarter, more informed, and within the legal avenues that keep this hobby alive for the next generation of pilots.
