About This Video

In this video I’m out in the space where I can think straight, and I’m breaking down a fresh FCC drone ban update: the FCC has passed exemptions for four drone companies that were on the ban list. I’m going to help you read between the lines on what this actually means. These exemptions came after a Department of War review found the drones in question posed no threat to national security, so they were added to the exemption list. The companies are Sefly (USA, Q12), MobilityCom (Israel), Scout DI (USA, Scout 137), and Verge Arrow (USA, Verge Arrow X1). Here’s the pattern I want you to notice: it’s three U.S. companies and one allied Israeli company—no other foreign countries made the cut. And yeah, most of these drones likely still have Chinese components inside (because most do), but they still cleared the review. So what does this look like for DJI? DJI is still in a lawsuit with the FCC, and this new exemption path gives DJI’s lawyers a strong argument: if these companies got a per-drone evaluation, DJI should be able to get the same fair evaluation for exemption in the U.S. Drop your thoughts in the comments—was DJI never fairly evaluated, was the blanket ban too broad, and should more companies be re-evaluated now that we’re months into this?
