I Built a Trash-Bin ATB in a Michigan Winter — What Are YOU Building?

Winter in Michigan means snow on the ground and riding on pause — so instead of pedaling, it’s time to build. In this video, I take a stripped Giant Rincon that’s been hanging in my basement and turn it into a trash-bin ATB (All-Terrain Bike) using almost entirely leftover parts, trash-day finds, and odds and ends from past projects. The goal wasn’t perfection — it was keeping the biking spirit alive through winter by building something useful, comfortable, and fun. Along the way, I experiment with: 🚴‍♂️A Rapid Rise rear derailleur paired with a twist shifter 🚴‍♂️Super thin, trash-find metal fenders 🚴‍♂️Fat slick tires from a failed old build 🚴‍♂️Mismatched crank arms 🚴‍♂️Cheap single-wall wheels with a wide-range freewheel 🚴‍♂️And a fully DIY front basket built from scrap aluminum, hardware-store clamps, and even an old computer case Some of the parts I expected to fight me were easy. The parts I thought would be simple? Not so much. This is a real-world, parts-bin ATB build — imperfections, problem-solving, and all.
