If your hands, back, or neck hurt after riding, the solution might be right in front of you. In this video, I install an adjustable quill stem on a bike with a threaded headset — a simple but powerful upgrade that can completely transform your comfort and control on the bike. This stem lets you change the angle of your handlebars, so you can ride more upright or aggressive depending on your style. It’s a perfect mod for older mountain bikes, hybrids, or cruisers with 1" or 1 1/8" threaded steerers. 🔧 Tools & Parts Used: 😃 Adjustable quill stem from Amazon 👉 https://amzn.to/4lhMMvh 😃 My favorite Bike Multitool Crank Brothers M19 on Amazon 👉 https://amzn.to/3UL0hIU 😃 5mm or 6mm Hex wrench (depending on your stem) 📋 Step-by-Step Installation: Step 1 – Remove Handlebars Loosen the faceplate bolts on your old stem and remove the handlebars. This gives you easier access when removing the stem. Step 2 – Remove the Old Stem Loosen the top bolt on the quill stem. If it doesn't come out easily, tap it gently to release the wedge or cone inside the fork. Then slide the old stem out. Step 3 – Install the New Adjustable Stem Insert the new quill stem into the steerer tube, making sure it goes past the minimum insertion line. Line it up with your front wheel and tighten the quill bolt to hold it in place. Step 4 – Reattach Handlebars and Set the Angle Mount your handlebars onto the adjustable stem and lightly tighten the faceplate. Use the pivot bolt to adjust the angle of the stem — higher for comfort, lower for performance — then tighten everything securely. Step 5 – Test & Fine-Tune Check your brake and shifter cable slack, take a short ride, and tweak the stem angle if needed. Make sure everything feels solid and aligned. This 10-minute upgrade can make a huge difference in how your bike fits you. Whether you're rebuilding an old MTB or just trying to ride pain-free, this stem is a smart, affordable fix. 👍 Like, subscribe, and check out my full playlist of DIY bike upgrades and repairs. 🔍 Hashtags: #BikeFit #BikeUpgrade #QuillStem #AdjustableStem #ComfortBike #MTBUpgrade #BikeRepair #DIYBike #HandlebarInstall ************************************************************************* I only recommend items I actually OWN and use.
