4 Hours | 20+ Miles | Navajo Rocks, Moab On day two of our Moab trip, my son and I set out to ride the full Navajo Rocks trail system, just northwest of town — one of the most scenic and fun mid-level rides in Utah’s desert country. We ended up covering a little over 20 miles, spending nearly four hours on the trail, soaking in views, taking breaks, and just talking as we rode. We started and finished at the lower trailhead, riding almost the entire system in this order: Rocky Tops → Coney Island → Big Lonely → Big Mesa → Ramblin. The trails here are rated intermediate, with some advanced sections — slickrock ledges, rolling climbs, and panoramic mesas that seem to stretch forever. The views are unbelievable: sandstone domes, red canyons, and long desert horizons. For this ride, we rented Kona 160 e-mountain bikes from Double Down Bike Shop in Moab. Having e-bikes made a massive difference — we were able to cover more ground and keep exploring instead of worrying about burning out. (Note: e-bikes are currently not permitted on this trail system.) The video runs about 41 minutes, almost entirely unedited — just the sound of tires on rock, shifting gears, and desert wind. It’s a slow-paced, real-time look at what it’s like to ride Moab’s Navajo Rocks, the kind of ride you share with a close friend or family member. Unfortunately, my battery died before filming the final part of Ramblin, which was mostly downhill in our direction — a beautiful ending we’ll have to capture next time. Trail Highlights Rocky Tops: flowing slickrock with short punchy climbs Coney Island: smoother singletrack and desert views Big Lonely: rolling sandstone with some techy transitions Big Mesa: exposed cliff sections and a small rebar bridge with huge views Ramblin: long, fast descent — the perfect finish (even if I missed it on camera) Trail Stats Full loop: ~17–20 miles Elevation gain: ~1,600 ft Rated: Intermediate Estimated time: 3–5 hrs (depending on pace & stops) Tips Start early — the slickrock radiates heat all day. Bring plenty of water, a good lunch, and snacks. Expect a mix of smooth slickrock, short climbs, and sandy stretches. Stop and take it in — the views are worth every pause. This was one of those rides where the miles didn’t matter — it was about time together, exploration, and Moab’s red-rock magic. — 🎥 Filmed on: Insta360 | Recorded in real time, minimal editing 🚴 Bikes: Kona 160 eMTB rentals from Double Down Bike Shop 🌄 Trails: Rocky Tops, Coney Island, Big Lonely, Big Mesa, Ramblin (Navajo Rocks, Moab, UT) #MoabMTB, #NavajoRocks, #MountainBiking, #FatherSonRide, #RawRide, #EbikeAdventure, #MoabUtah, #SlickrockTrail, #MTBAdventure ************************************************************************* I only recommend items I actually OWN and use.
