About This Video

In this video I’m basically having a conversation with you about who I think the MPC XL is actually a good fit for—and who can probably skip it. I’m not here to “sell” you on it. I want you to form your own opinion based on my experience using MPCs, seeing different studio setups, and understanding what people really need when they’re trying to get work done. For me, the MPC XL makes the most sense for a working professional who has a dedicated studio space and needs a centerpiece for producing. It leans stronger in standalone than software mode, and right now standalone just feels like it has a little more flexibility—like certain features being available there first. If you’ve been on older MPC generations (pre-Live era), this is also a solid time to step over into the modern MPC world because you’re basically skipping ahead and getting the newer pad interface plus strong I/O and computer connectivity. On the flip side, if you already own an MPC Live/Live II/Live 3/Key 61/One+, I don’t really think you “need” the XL. Yes, more processing power, more I/O, more RAM—cool. But it’s still a sampler at the end of the day, and you can still get the work done on what you’ve got. The XL is more of a luxurious, flagship experience than a requirement.
