In this video I’m clearing up a comment I keep seeing: “MPC Sample has sidechain.” And I’m like… not quite. I show you what people are hearing and why it feels like sidechain, but also why I don’t consider it true sidechaining. Traditionally, sidechain is when one instrument makes the volume of another instrument go down—like your kick making your pads duck. So I pull up the same idea on the MPC Sample and I demonstrate the Knob FX “Pumper” effect. It gives you that rhythmic pumping vibe and, yeah, it can sound like sidechain. But it’s not actually reacting to another sound—it's just an effect applied in time. Then I jump to the MPC Live 3 and do the real version using the Mother Ducker plugin on the pads, plus the Mother Ducker input so the kick is actually triggering the ducking. You can hear the difference back-to-back. My goal isn’t to hate on the MPC Sample at all—I’m not mad at it—I'm just trying to help you understand what’s happening so you can make better choices in your beats.
