About This Video

What’s up — in this video I’m showing you a clean way to “fly” background vocals in Studio One 7 without dragging 20 vocal events all over your session. When you’ve got stacks of BGVs, it looks cool seeing all the tracks, but it gets complicated fast—especially when the last lyric overlaps into the first lyric of the hook. Instead of copying a bunch of regions and praying all the plugins line up, I mix down the background vocal stack to a stereo file and drop it straight into Sample One. From there, I’m triggering that bounced vocal with MIDI, recording it live, and keeping everything tight (and yeah, I even catch myself when it doesn’t record the first time—so you can see what to watch for). The real sauce is duplicating the sampler so you can overlap endings into the next section, control the level, and share effects across the duplicated sampler. I also show how you can get creative: reverse the sample, change the start point to grab just a phrase, and build an intro hook chop like “you give me butterflies” before the beat drops. The takeaway is simple: this gives you flexibility and creativity while keeping the session way cleaner.
