About This Video

All right, Akai did it—MPC XL just dropped, and I wanted to give you my real thoughts without all the internet panic. In this video I break down what we know so far, including the big surprise: I was wrong about the Live 3 being the flagship. The XL is clearly the top dog, and it’s literally bigger than the MPC X. I also talk specs that actually matter in real life—8 cores (same as Live 3), 16GB RAM (double), and 256GB internal storage (also double). When you compare that to the older Live units with 2GB RAM and 16GB storage, it’s wild how far the platform has come. But I also keep it honest: do we really need terabytes of stuff? Some people do, but for a lot of folks, this XL makes the most sense if you don’t already have a ton of gear. At around $3K, it’s priced like other top-tier units, and I can absolutely see the appeal. The biggest moment for me was watching Teddy Riley cook up on it—seeing a legend actually work is inspiring, and it didn’t just make me want the XL… it made me want to go harder on what I already have. At the end of the day, the point is to make music—don’t let the gear just sit there.
