In this video I’m talking about the MPC Sample before I even own it—because yeah, I already ordered it. Do I need it? No. Is it “special”? Not really. But I’m curious, and I don’t think anybody should get side-eyed for owning more than one MPC—nobody does that to guitarists with multiple guitars, so why do it to producers? I break down who I think this little box is really for: the young producer coming up in a post-laptop, FL Studio world where software is cheap (or “free”) and hardware has to fight for attention. The big draw for me is the form factor—truly portable—plus a more traditional MPC-style sequencer workflow compared to stuff like the SP-404 (I learned it, but I didn’t like making beats on it). I also talk through the feature list that’s got my attention: built-in speaker and mic, multiple internal effects processors, time stretch, resampling with effects, and USB power/file transfer. At $399, it felt like a low-risk way to kill my curiosity and hopefully cook up in ways I wouldn’t on my Live or One.
