In this video I’m talking about how I feel about the Xania Monet situation—AI music, going viral, and the whole “prompt a song and end up on Billboard” reality. At face value, I didn’t like it. I didn’t like the idea that you don’t have to learn how to play, sequence, or mix—you just learn how to prompt. But after I sat with it, I had to be honest: the music industry has never been fair, and the public doesn’t really care how the music is made as long as they enjoy it. I also break down why going viral matters more than “traditional” skill in today’s game, and how labels follow attention and money. If you’re mad about it, cool—but I’m more concerned with what you can actually demonstrate in real time, not just what you type online. The work has shifted: prompting is work now, and it’s on us to educate ourselves on how this stuff works. My take is simple: you can stay traditional and keep cooking on an MPC with vinyl (I love that), but the world doesn’t owe you that lane. For me, I don’t need AI to make music—I can make music. Where AI helps me is visuals, because you’ve got to catch the eyes before you catch the ears on these platforms.
