My Hair Update (Porosity, Protein, Density/Texture, Elasticity) | Curly Cami Channel

My hair has been through a lot and now I am learning more and struggling with maintaining length and scalp care. I have dry scalp and double cleansing after 4-5 days between washes. I have cut my hair to better work with my hair to not continue hair breakage on the ends. My hair has not been treated before with any dyes or chemicals. I plan on focusing on scalp care, hair growth and balance between moisture and protein use. About This Video

In this hair update, I’m breaking down what I’ve learned about my hair: porosity, elasticity, texture/density, and how I handle protein. I also touch on curl pattern (I’m mainly in the 3s, but I say 4A in certain spots—especially around my hairline). My hair has been through a lot, and right now I’m really trying to understand why I’ve struggled with length retention and how to keep my scalp happy. For porosity, I put myself at medium because my hair doesn’t take forever to get wet, but it also doesn’t absorb water super fast—it’s right in the middle. Sometimes it acts low porosity and dries out while I’m detangling with conditioner. My elasticity feels normal and balanced because when I stretch a strand, it bounces back (no moisture overload and no protein overload). I also share that detangling has been easier since I cut my hair, but I’m still heavy-handed and I’m working on being gentler. Protein-wise, I keep it low because I don’t want to overdo it, but I’m okay with a little protein in something like a leave-in. In Arizona heat, moisture is a must. I don’t really do hair masks—I feel like detangling with conditioner is basically my “mask step,” then I shampoo twice and follow up with leave-in. I even did a little test run detangling and braiding, and I’m hoping to experiment more soon.
