5.3K views· 203 likes· 16:29· Mar 21, 2026

This week I’m testing out a new thumb release aid for my compound bow from LWANO. In this video I take a close look at the release itself, go over its key features, and explain why I decided to make the switch from my previous release. I also take it out on the range to shoot with it and see how it actually performs in real-world conditions. Changing release aids can have a huge impact on consistency, execution, and overall feel — so is this LWANO GENESIS thumb release a good upgrade? About This Video

I’m out on a chilly-but-blue-sky New Zealand morning doing the one thing you probably shouldn’t do right before a comp… I changed gear. I’ve got a competition next weekend (heading down to Christchurch for the Kenny Rogers Memorial), and I decided to switch release aids and run the LWANO (Elwano) Archery GENESIS thumb release. In this video I do a proper first look—what comes in the box, what’s adjustable (trigger angle, travel, length, weight), and how the mechanism locks onto the D-loop so you’re not fuffing around. I’ve been shooting a budget Toe Point thumb release that locks shut, and honestly it was going well—but I kept getting the odd flyer and I couldn’t pin down why. The big difference with the GENESIS for me is the feel: it’s lighter, crisper, and I can get my thumb on it with less effort, which helps me avoid those jaggedy movements that can creep in when you’ve got to push harder to fire. I shoot a quick side-by-side at 30m (six arrows with each) and talk through stability, finger placement (I’m more stable with all fingers on), and why I reckon this budget gear can still keep up at my level. Keep shooting—it's the only way you’re going to get better.
