Choosing the Right Arrow Diameter for Target Compound Archery

5.6K views· 140 likes· 14:57· Feb 14, 2026

In this video, I test two different arrow diameters to find out what size arrow I should be shooting from my target compound bow. I compare 3.2mm I/D Pandarus Icepoint arrows against 4.2mm I/D Pandarus Infinity arrows, shooting both setups and looking at grouping, forgiveness, and real-world performance. Micro-diameter arrows are often praised for reduced wind drift, while larger diameter arrows are known for forgiveness and easier tuning — but which actually performs better in practice? This is a real shooting test, not a catalogue comparison. About This Video

In this video I’m trying to answer a question I keep going back to as a (very) new compound target shooter: should I be running skinny arrows or something a bit fatter for 70m-style target rounds? For us target shooters, “skinny” isn’t 4.2mm/.166 — skinny is 3.2mm I/D (think X10 territory). So I put my Pandarus Icepoint 3.2mm I/D arrows up against Pandarus Infinity 4.2mm I/D arrows and did a very “scientific” test: six arrows at 30m on a 40cm face with each setup, then compared grouping and real-world feel. What I found was pretty simple. The 3.2s grouped better on the day (they were set up nicely), but the 4.2s still grouped well — they were just landing lower, and a lot of that was on me (sight not quite right, plus I’d just changed the peep and D-loop and the light was dropping). The bigger takeaway is it’s not a catalogue argument: it comes down to the day, the distance, and what you’re confident in. I’m confident in the Icepoints, and I’m getting more confident with the Infinities too — especially because for a budget arrow they’ve been excellent and problem-free apart from the odd broken nock.
