About This Video

In this video I’m reviewing my new BCE foam archery target butt from Australia, because—rant incoming—we don’t “play” archery… we conduct it, and to conduct archery you need somewhere for the arrows to actually go. I’ve shot a heap of different target butts over the years: straw back in the UK (great life, not kind to carbon), a Pro Boss foam I imported in 2016 (10–20,000 arrows before pass-throughs), layered foam, and the 11 target I’ve been using more recently. The problem I keep running into is longevity and what happens when you miss the “good” center—especially once you start sending compound arrows into softer foam. The BCE is a proper chunky unit: about 95 x 95 x 20 cm, and it’s built with 12 replaceable inserts. The layout is really practical for indoor practice at home—three inserts match a Vegas-style setup and three match a World Archery indoor three-spot, so I can swap faces and just replace the worn sections instead of binning the whole butt. I also do a direct comparison shoot at 18m against my 11 target, and you can clearly see how the softer EVA lets arrows bury up to the fletchings, while the BCE’s dense foam stops them well—just make sure you use silicon/arrow lube, because without it you’ll fight to get arrows out. Overall: great build, good value (especially vs Danage pricing here), and the cheap inserts are the big win.
