Companies have been constantly trying to come up with new ways to save your graphics card from burning, thanks to our good friend the 16-pin connector. ASUS' approach is the ROG Equalizer cable, but will it work? About This Video

You know what’s worse than paying thousands for a graphics card? Having it randomly burst into flames — and yeah, that’s the lovely little risk that keeps following the 16‑pin connector around. In this video I’m talking about ASUS’ latest attempt to make that situation less terrifying: the $50 ROG Equalizer cable. Yes, it’s a cable that costs fifty bucks, and no, it’s not in the same category as “audiophile magic.” At least here, the science is the whole selling point. What makes it different is pretty straightforward: ASUS says it’s designed to carry almost double the amperage versus a regular 16‑pin cable (9.2A up to 17A), and it uses some patented tech to run cooler. In their testing it showed up to a 9°C drop even at a peak 600W load, which is exactly where you’d want extra margin. It’s mainly aimed at ROG PSUs, but ASUS claims it should work with pretty much any unit, and it’ll be bundled with future versions of the ROG Thor (RG4) and ROG Strix Platinum PSUs. Existing owners can buy one at a discount later in Q2 2026 — no price yet. It’s kind of sad we need “anti-GPU-explosion accessories,” but if it’s not snake oil, it’s at least a precaution worth considering.
