So far Nvidia DLSS has been a decent enough tool to get more performance out of your games! But DLSS 5 has taken a turn for the worse, turning every game it touches into AI slop. About This Video

DLSS has been one of those things I was basically fine with. Yeah, it arguably let some developers get a little lazy with optimization, but free performance is free performance—and on the newer versions, especially on the higher presets, you can barely even tell you’re looking at an upscaled image. Add-ons like ray reconstruction even made some games look better, so DLSS ended up being something we tolerated and almost kind of liked. In this video, I talk about why the DLSS 5 reveal really doesn’t sit right with me. Instead of feeling like a real leap in performance or detail, it comes off like Nvidia is slapping a generic AI image filter over everything—wrecking the original art style and pushing games into this uncanny “AI slop” look. The wild part is how straightfaced Nvidia (and even Bethesda) have been trying to hype it up, to the point where Jensen himself is basically telling everyone they’re wrong for criticizing it. The only real silver linings I see are that it’s supposed to be optional (so you can just turn it off), and it’s targeting a Q3 launch—so maybe it improves by then. But I’m still left wondering: even if it gets better, who actually wants their games to look like that?
