AMD 3D V-Cache CPUs like the Ryzen 9800X3D and the flagship Ryzen 9950X3D have been dominating sales charts, and they are now taking it to the next level with the Ryzen 9950X3D2, the first dual V-Cache CPU! About This Video

We’ve heard the rumors and leaks, but now it’s officially… well, official: AMD announced the Ryzen 9 9950X3D2 “Dual Edition.” Yes, that is a real name of a real product, and no, I don’t know why it needs “Dual Edition” when there’s already a “2” after X3D. The actual story here is way more interesting: this is basically the 9950X3D taken to the next level by giving 3D V-Cache to all cores across both CCDs. Previously, only one CCD (so half the cores) got the extra cache, which helped performance but also created some annoying scheduling/optimal-core weirdness. With the 9950X3D2, all cores are finally equal, which should get rid of those handling issues and deliver extra performance regardless of which cores a task lands on. AMD is claiming a massive 28 MB of cache in total, but I also temper expectations: cache only goes so far before other bottlenecks show up, and plenty of games don’t even care beyond eight cores on a single CCD. That’s also why AMD weirdly didn’t focus much on gaming in the announcement and instead highlighted gains in various non-gaming workloads. Pricing isn’t confirmed yet, but when the non-dual 9950X3D is already $700, you can guess where this is headed—especially with a 200W TDP that’s going to demand a real cooler.
