I've tried a few different ways to demonstrate art steps to my students and these are the two I've found that work best for me. 1. On my projector from a camera hooked up to my computer (I used to try air playing from my iPad and use the camera, but it becomes glitchy and dies faster) 2. Flat from a central table area. (I tried an easle, but it was clunky and took up too much floor/table space) I mostly use the document camera because it makes things bigger. But sometimes they listen better when it's right in front of them instead of on the screen. Document camera I use (not an affiliate link, currently unavailable). I like this one because it is sturdy and swivels and moves very easily. Plus it has pretty good picture quality for a $30ish camera. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0868H9NN8/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1

About This Video

In this video I’m sharing the two demo setups that have worked best for me when I’m teaching elementary art. I’ve tested a few different ways over the years, and I keep coming back to two options depending on the project, the room, and what my kids need that day: using a document camera on my projector, or doing the demo flat on a central table where everyone can gather around. Most of the time I use my document camera because it makes everything bigger and easier to see—especially for small steps and details. I used to try AirPlaying from my iPad while using the camera, but it got glitchy and my iPad would die faster, so switching to a camera hooked up to my computer has been a much smoother routine. That said, sometimes my students honestly listen better when the demo is right in front of them instead of on a screen, so I’ll pull them in and demonstrate flat on the table. I also tried using an easel, but it felt clunky and took up way too much floor/table space for my classroom setup.
