It's confession time. I spend a lot of my own money... *I must add a disclaimer that I understand my experience is not going to be like anyone else's experience. There definitely are teachers out there who do not have a supply budget and get paid only half what I probably get paid while doing even more work. This is simply my experience and my first confession. Things I spend my own money on... 1. BOOKS! ALL THE ART BOOKS! 2. Classroom decorations from window coverings to string lights 3. Nonconsumable activities for students - legos, blocks, etch-a-sketch, etc. 4. Things I would personally use or want to take home occasionally 5. Items that can't be found on approved school vendor lists 6. Less expensive consumables I need immediately and not 1-2 months from now 7. TpT or other lesson resources purchasable online 8. Prizes for kids like large stickers and small slimes, trinkets, and such (I didn't even show that in the video) CONNECT Website: https://www.alishahagen.com Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/alishahagenart/ Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/missalishahagen Youtube: https://www.youtube.com/@alishahagenart CONTACT email: alishahagenart@gmail.com PURCHASE Teachers Pay Teachers: https://www.teacherspayteachers.com/store/ms-hagen-art-class Artwork on Etsy: https://www.etsy.com/shop/AlishaHagenArt If you're new here - welcome! Now I create pottery and art in my cozy backyard studio.

About This Video

It’s confession time: in this video I’m talking about something a lot of teachers quietly do—spend our own money on the classroom. I’m sharing my personal experience as an elementary art teacher and the specific kinds of things I ended up buying out-of-pocket, even when there were systems in place for ordering supplies. And yes… it adds up fast. I walk through the categories that I’ve consistently spent money on, starting with my biggest weakness: BOOKS. All the art books. I also show the kinds of classroom decorations that make the room feel cozy and welcoming (window coverings, string lights, the whole vibe), plus nonconsumable “choice” activities for kids like Legos, blocks, and Etch A Sketch. I explain why I sometimes buy items I personally want to use (and occasionally take home), why some supplies just aren’t available through approved vendor lists, and why I’ll grab cheaper consumables when I need them now—not 1–2 months from now. I also talk about paying for online resources like TpT and buying little prizes for students. Big disclaimer: I know every school and every teacher situation is different—this is simply my first confession and my experience.
