Today I wanted to explain some of the changes to the way the Flake works, why they are the way they are. I did also want to take the time to talk about what kind of improvements are coming for the Wiki and the project. 🌟 I state it in the video, but the support for this has been incredible. About This Video

What’s up — I’m Tyler (Zaney), and in this video I’m basically rambling through the “why” behind the changes I’ve been making to my NixOS project, ZaneyOS. I’ve gotten ridiculously addicted to NixOS, and this whole config is my Hyprland setup with theme switching (Base16 schemes), Waybar styles you can pick from, and eventually more stuff like Rofi themes. I also show the wiki and explain how it’s meant to document the project as it evolves, because the screenshots and bar styles and all that are going to keep changing as I keep tinkering. The biggest practical change is how the flake is structured: I added a top-level options.nix, and the goal is that for 99% of people, the only files you’ll need to touch are flake.nix and options.nix. You do your initial install, change username/hostname in the flake, then use options.nix to toggle what you want (git name/email, theming, and big packages like Kdenlive). For extra personal tweaks, I’m working toward sourcing optional “personal” files from your home directory (like a bashrc-personal) so you don’t have to constantly edit my config and then fight updates later. The whole point is making NixOS easier to get into, because it’s amazing, but the learning curve is real.
