Hello everyone 👋 I have been meaning to get this mod taken care of for some time. I just couldn't put it off any longer. This mod requires a few items: the USB-C pd trigger module, soldering kit, hot glue, and a drill. I highly recommend doing this just to make your Thinkpad feel more modern. It's just cool. About This Video

In this one I finally stopped putting it off and did the USB‑C Power Delivery mod on my ThinkPad T440p. The idea is simple: pull the original Lenovo barrel-style charge port out of the back, then replace it with a USB‑C PD trigger module set to 20V (which is what these ThinkPads want). Once it’s wired up, the laptop charges like everything else on my desk—phone, VR headset, controllers, lights—the whole “one cable to rule them all” vibe. It’s a super satisfying way to make a 12+ year old machine feel weirdly modern. The “fun” part was getting the original port out. The blog guide I followed said to gently nudge it out with a flathead… yeah, mine didn’t budge after an hour+ of basically going caveman on it, so I drilled it out and that worked great. Wiring-wise, you’ve got two positives (red), two grounds (black), and a white wire that needs a resistor (I used 470Ω) to ground. I did wire that white lead wrong at first (to positive), got a good scare when it wouldn’t power on, then moved it to ground and everything was fine. I’m not proud of the scotch tape “insulation,” but it’s working, hot-glued in place, and it happily charges even on a 65W USB‑C brick with my i7 upgrade.
