PRS just dropped two new amps, and in this video I’m putting the spotlight on the Mark Tremonti MT15 Mark II (V2) to see if it’s really the best high-gain amp you can grab for under $1,000. The original MT15 from 2018 already had a reputation for being way more “monstrous” than it had any right to be for the size, and this new version basically pulls the vibe and features of the MT100 (which I demoed back in 2023) into a smaller, more portable head. Same punchy 6L6 feel—you can genuinely feel it in your chest—just in a lower wattage package. I run through riffs and full musical examples (Alter Bridge, King’s X, Metallica, and more), plus some double-tracked tones so you can hear how it sits when you layer guitars. The big update is how the channels work: the lead channel has a push/pull treble that accesses the overdrive mode by removing two gain stages for more vintage, less-saturated mid-gain tones. The clean channel also gets a push/pull boost for more volume and a hint of crunch—super handy for low output pickups or just pushing the front end. On the practical side, you’ve got a great effects loop, a 15W/7W half-power switch for more sag and quieter “cranked” feel, and—most importantly—an absolutely nailed master volume. Even at bedroom levels, it stays tight, clear, and doesn’t get buzzy or shrill like a lot of high-gain amps do.
