About This Video

The Pixel 4 just dropped, you’ve got it in hand, and now you’re wondering what to do first—so in this video I run through my first 10 must-do settings and features to get your Pixel 4 or Pixel 4 XL feeling fast, personal, and actually useful. I start with the built-in customization that a lot of people skip: Styles & Wallpapers. You can change fonts, icons, colors, and icon shapes without installing a whole new launcher. Then I show how to flip on Dark Theme, which not only looks clean but can help squeeze a bit more juice out of the battery. After that, I get into the “make it feel faster” stuff. If you love gesture controls, keep them—but I show where to switch back to the old three-button navigation if that’s your thing. Then we jump into Developer Options: I set the animation scales to 0.5x to make everything feel snappier, and I also show how to force 90Hz all the time (yes, it can cost battery, but it’s worth it in my opinion). From there it’s camera time—astrophotography with Night Sight, using the telephoto the right way, and the double-tap power button camera shortcut so you never miss a moment. I wrap with Pixel-only goodies like squeeze gestures, Motion Sense radar, and my favorite: Now Playing on the lock screen.
