About This Video

In this video I’m basically saying the excuses need to end—there’s no reason to be hopping in games with terrible mic quality anymore, because there are way too many affordable options. I’m testing the TONOR TC777, and for under $40 it actually comes in as a legit all-in-one starter mic. It’s plug-and-play, and right out of the box you get the little extras that normally cost more: a gooseneck pop filter, foam windscreen, a small shock mount, and a tripod stand. I go over the stand and mounting stuff too. The included tripod is better than you’d expect for a “throw-in”: aluminum legs, rubber feet to keep it from sliding when you’re raging, and it helps with vibrations (not as much as the shock mount, but it helps). Height adjustment is limited, but the height ended up being almost perfect for me. I also like that you can unscrew the legs and throw it on a boom arm. I do have a couple gripes: the gooseneck pop filter isn’t removable and honestly just gets in the way, and the cable is non-removable—if it gets damaged, the mic is basically trashed (at least there’s a 2-year warranty). Then I run it through two audio scenarios: a real-world gaming setup with fan/keyboard noise, and a more controlled recording test, plus what it can sound like after a bit of denoise/EQ tweaking.
