About This Video

I’m lucky enough to test a ton of keyboards, and if I’m being real, most sub-$50 boards don’t make it onto the channel because there’s usually some painful compromise. In this video, I’m checking out the 1STPLAYER DK 5.0 mechanical gaming keyboard, and it’s one of the rare budget boards that actually surprised me in a good way. It’s got an all-black, stealthy look with RGB as the main “flashy” element, and it feels like an absolute thick boy at almost two and a half pounds. The big win here is build quality. Even though it’s ABS plastic, the shell is one solid piece that wraps around the sides and gives me a super solid typing and gaming experience—zero flex, even when I’m mashing. The keycaps are doubleshot ABS (not PBT), but they feel good and have basically no wobble, which is awesome at this price. My main nitpicks: the cable isn’t braided, and the secondary legends aren’t backlit, which makes media keys a pain in the dark. The switches are Cherry MX Blue-style clickies—great for typing, but I still don’t love gaming on blues compared to reds or browns. Still, for under $50, this thing packs in a lot: full N-key rollover, on-the-fly macros, and 13 lighting effects with optional software customization.
