Hello YouTube land—Eddie here from Windy Therapy. In this video I walk you through installing rear crash bars (crash guards) on my Triumph Trophy SE. The rear bars are meant to protect the panniers in a tip-over, and I’ll be honest: I kept calling the exhaust a “muffler”… hey, no one is perfect. I start at the exhaust and work my way back, because that’s the cleanest way to get access without fighting the hardware the whole time. I show the tools I used (10mm/12mm for the clamp, #8 Allen for the exhaust mount, 15mm for the wheel nuts, plus 12mm/13mm for the crash bar hardware). I also share a few real-world tips—like blocking the wheel with a brick or 2x4 so it doesn’t spin while you loosen/tighten, using a star pattern like you would on a car wheel, and reapplying sealant at the exhaust joint to avoid leaks. The U-bolt portion is a little awkward, and on the right side you need to watch the cables so you don’t pinch anything. At the end I do a quick walkaround so you can see how the guards sit. They stick out just enough to do the job, they’re not intrusive, and if I had them earlier, I wouldn’t have the pannier damage you’ll see on my bike. Overall, I’m very pleased with how they look and how practical they are for touring and motocamping life.
