On today’s video I kick off my first winter preventive maintenance job for my motorcycle camper, and I’m starting with something simple that can save you a ton of headaches: pop-up wheel bearing lubrication. I walk you through how I grease the bearings on my Lees-Ure Lite Excel / SLT Excel II style hub (and this applies to Mini Mate and other small pop-up campers too). It’s not complicated, but there are a few kinks you really need to understand so you don’t make a mess or damage anything. I show the basic tools I use—wheel chock, gloves, shop towels, a screwdriver, and a small grease gun—and I also explain how to assemble the grease gun properly (including the cartridge direction so you don’t install it upside down). Then I demonstrate how to connect to the grease nipple the right way by loosening the coupler to release the jaws, pumping until you see fresh grease, and stopping before you overdo it. My big takeaways: don’t over-pressurize the seal, use grease color as a visual indicator, and service small trailer wheels more often because they spin faster. I’m not a mechanic, but I do this about every 5,000 miles—preventive maintenance is the key if you want your camper ready for spring.
