About This Video

In this Pit Stop Tips short, I’m out by Okanagan Lake in Kelowna, BC, and I’m showing a super simple way to get on and off your motorcycle with little or no strain. This is especially helpful if you’re dealing with a tall seat height (mine is 32 inches) or you’ve got shorter legs. I’ll be honest—I’ve been doing this wrong for more than 30 years, and it took me way too long to realize there’s an easier, cleaner method. I walk through what I used to do (including the classic “bang the top box” move that leaves scratches and scuffs… which sucks), and then I show the better way: bike in first gear for safety, hold the front brake, step on the peg, stand up, and swing over smoothly. I also show you can do it from the other side too—just be mindful on lighter bikes so you don’t tip it. And if you’re worried about putting weight on the peg, don’t be—those brackets and bolts are built for serious load, and you’re only on it for a few seconds. Be good, be safe, and let’s keep the rubber side down.
