In this video I’m waterproofing my 2021 Lees-Ure Lite Excel pop-up camper canvas as I’m heading into my third season and I haven’t done it yet—so I figured it’s the right time. I walk you through what I’m using, why I’m doing it a certain way, and the key areas I focus on to help prevent leaks down the road. Quick note: this is a process I researched myself, and it’s not necessarily what the dealer or distributor recommends—I respect their opinion, but I decided to go a different route. I use Star brite waterproofing and, honestly, I strongly recommend a pump sprayer instead of a little hand trigger bottle. With the amount of surface area, the small sprayer is painful on your fingers and the spray pattern isn’t great—spend the ~$20 and make the job faster and more controlled. I also use an N95 mask and gloves because you don’t really know what you’re breathing in, and these products can be sticky. The big takeaway: I’m not soaking the entire canvas. I trust the canvas, so I concentrate on the stitching, seams, zipper areas, and window/awning edges—basically where water can penetrate. I also remove the rain fly (first time for me) and hit the seam on it too. I got it done with about 20 ounces, then I let everything dry fully before packing it away—and yes, I learned the hard way to clean the sprayer after you use it.
