For me, the big wins are simple: it’s light, compact, and it comes with a footprint—huge if you’re camping in wet or muddy areas because it keeps the floor and sleeping area from getting dirty and soggy. I also love that the frame is basically one piece, so you’re not standing there stressed out trying to figure out which pole goes where. And the best part: this style lets you set it up inside-out or outside-in. If it starts raining, you can throw the rain fly up first, get your gear inside, and then add the inner—way better than soaking everything with a traditional setup. To finish, I show you how I waterproof this kind of nylon/polyester tent using a silicone-based spray. I hit the seams, stitching, and zipper areas first, then spray top-down, and let it dry for 1–2 hours in the sun before packing. Be good, be safe, and keep the rubber side down.
