Hey guys, it’s Kayla Waller with Waller Adventures, and in this one I’m back at Silver Springs State Park in Ocala, Florida to finally check out the Silver River Museum & Environmental Education Center. Audrey and I were camping here last week and the museum was closed, so I had to drive back because I kept hearing about that cool mammoth skeleton—and yep, it was worth it. I also brought a new Waller Adventure with me, Miranda, and we made a whole thing out of it (including attempting the scavenger hunts… and yes, I failed). Inside the museum I found a ton of wild Florida history—fossils, artifacts, and all kinds of displays from prehistoric animals (mammoth, mastodon, saber-tooth cat, direwolf, giant beaver, shark teeth) to Native American tools, pipes, and canoe history. One of the coolest parts was the dugout canoe section, especially knowing there’s even one still sitting in the water that you can see on the glass bottom boat tour. Out back, I walked the pioneer village with cracker house replicas and a 1930s schoolhouse vibe, and I even tried to spot the famous monkeys… no luck. If you’re planning a day trip, come for the museum, add kayaking or the glass bottom boats, and make it a full family outing.
