Hey guys, it’s Kayla Waller with Waller Adventures, and in this video I’m taking you underground at Florida Caverns State Park in Marianna, Florida—the only Florida state park with air-filled caves you can tour. We’d camped here the week before, but this time we paid for the guided cavern tour (about $32 total for two adults) and headed down those steps into a legit limestone cave system. Right away you’ll hear all the big rules (no backpacks, closed-toe shoes, don’t touch anything), and then it’s all about watching your head and your step—because there are definitely “head knockers” and slick spots. I walk through some of the coolest rooms and formations on the route, like the Wedding Room (with “wedding cake,” pipe organs, and my favorite—those curtain draperies), the Fractured/“Divorce” Room, the South America room with the rimstone pool shape, and the Waterfall Room where you can spot fossils and seashells in the ceiling. We also hit true darkness when the guide shuts off the lights (it’s wild—your eyes don’t adjust), see the old porcelain dinner bowls used to reflect lantern light, and learn a ton of history about the CCC guys who dug these caves out by hand in the 1930s. Overall, it was cooler than I thought it was going to be, and it made me appreciate both the natural formations and the work it took to open this place up.
