Hey guys, it’s Kayla Wall with Waller Adventures, and in this Crystal Coast adventure I’m taking y’all with me to Morehead City, North Carolina—starting inside the History Museum of Carteret County. We walk through exhibits that cover a little bit of everything: the Big Rock Blue Marlin Tournament history (and why it’s such a huge deal here), shrimp boats, old photos of downtown, and even how they use science like tissue samples and satellite tagging to learn more about these pelagic species. I also checked out some really wild local history, like Emma Pigott’s 1800s carriage and her story as a Confederate spy, plus military artifacts from World War I all the way up through modern warfare—most of it tied right back to Carteret County locals. After the museum, I head down Front Street on the Morehead City waterfront to show you the spots I remember from growing up—Big Rock Landing where they weigh the fish, the winner plaques, charter boats, and some of the classic restaurants like Sanitary Fish Market (1938). I also point out King Neptune, Sugarloaf Island (where they usually shoot fireworks), and even a piece of my own family connection with the Brown-Mitchell House outpost for Camp Seagull and Camp Seafare.
