About This Video

Most artists know that cursed feeling of wanting to draw but hitting a weird mental wall anyway. In this video, I break down what art block and perfectionism look like from my own experience—especially after a year of making a lot of character design work for YouTube. When your art starts feeling like it has to be perfect, important, and “for a purpose” (content, commissions, OC lore, whatever), creativity just kinda… stops cooperating. That pressure spirals into avoidance, self-blame, and burnout, and 2025 was literally my driest year for finished pieces. What snapped me out of it was ArtFight—not because the event is magic, but because it let me lower expectations in a structured way. I only drew characters I vibed with, kept things simpler (busts/half bodies, fewer backgrounds), and gave myself permission to “halfass” without guilt. I also tweaked my process instead of nuking it: fewer layers, skipping lineart where it doesn’t matter (wings, tails, long hair—never lining long hair again), and simplifying outfits when needed. On top of that, I talk about not feeding overambitious project gremlins, embracing the scuff when a sketch isn’t perfect, rebuilding a daily drawing routine, and why calling yourself lazy usually misses the actual problem. Finally, I share how watching other artists draw can kickstart motivation again.
