You know that feeling when you doodle a silly guy and suddenly you’ve got a whole tragic backstory queued up in your brain? Congrats, it’s an OC. In this video I’m redesigning two of mine—Deus and his twin sister Dusa—because they’ve basically been living in my head rent-free for years and their designs started outgrowing their lore. While you watch the speedpaint, I lore-dump about my “Disaster Universe” (our world, ~100 years in the future, post-catastrophic war, demons coming out of hiding) and how these two half-demons went from abused kids in Egypt to very different adult paths… and then into the rebellion against a power-hungry bastard named Astor. Design-wise, Dusa gets the big overhaul. I build her from the body up (yes, “artistic nudity,” YouTube—I need to know where her muscles are), then tackle silhouettes, outfit logic, and color choices like saving green for her rebellion look. I also justify her “sexy and stylish” corporate fit with lore (pro artist tip: don’t kill your darlings, just write more lore), and I go deep on hair—textured natural hair, wig choices, and shape language—because it actually matters to her story. Deus gets more of an update: a slight hair tweak, a darker blue eye for that real-life heterochromia contrast, and a frankly irresponsible amount of outfit options… including the goddamn booty shorts.
