Hey y’all, I’m Will, and in this speedpaint-with-commentary I finally sat down and designed demons for my original world (Disaster Universe) in a way that actually makes them feel like a species, not just “slit pupils + sharp nails.” I walk you through the core demon traits (muscle builds, height range, claws, eye glow, funky scleras), then I dig into how my magic system ties directly into character design—because I’m obsessed with making lore show up on the body. Different demons cast differently (gestures, incantations, objects, even dancing), and the strongest users can become immune to the magic they’re best at. Design-wise, I start with a super powerful fire demon concept lady—buff, over two meters tall, and casting with a clenched fist so she can literally punch people with fire. She’s so in tune with her element that her hair is basically lava rock that can crack and spew when she’s mad (yeah, don’t mess with her). Then I make a chaotic “lab rat” demon named Bluetooth to show off markings that can become real physical traits—extra eyeballs that actually see, and mouth markings that turn into more teeth (because teeth are baby girl, obviously). Finally, I draw my existing OC Doe, a “turned demon” human who gained magic through a rare ritual, and I show her action pose + big glowing claw-hands that burn a ton of energy to manifest.
