About This Video

Phones are getting seriously similar on the hardware side, especially in the budget-to-flagship value space. In this video I compare OnePlus (OxygenOS/ColorOS depending on region, including the UK) versus Xiaomi HyperOS, using examples like the OnePlus 13 and Xiaomi 14T Pro to show how close things are on cameras, batteries and charging (100W vs 120W). The real differences, in my experience, come down to software: customization, smoothness, ecosystem features, and how useful the built-in AI actually is day to day. On customization, Xiaomi gives you way more options overall—especially for always-on display styles and even AI-generated wallpapers with movement (I’m genuinely enjoying the forest one). The one area I think OnePlus clearly wins is icon customization: size, shape and style are just more flexible. For performance, both are fast, but OxygenOS feels more “stock Android” and that makes it super buttery smooth and a bit more fluid, while HyperOS can feel slightly more jittery because there’s more going on in the background (and yes, bloatware). AI is the big one. OnePlus focuses more on polishing what you’ve already written (shorten, lengthen, more formal, etc.), which I personally find more useful than Xiaomi’s built-in chatbot approach. And in my image editing tests, OnePlus’s AI tools—especially reflection removal—were simply more reliable, while Xiaomi’s results were more hit-and-miss.
