Straight From The Cow || Homemade Treats from Fresh Milk & Slow Cooker Pork || August 2025

Life stays busy around here, but there’s nothing like ending a busy day with a good home-cooked meal. In today’s video, I set a salted pork shoulder in the crockpot early on so supper could cook while the day carried on. Between chores, I put fresh cow’s milk to good use—making butter and chocolate ice cream, and even trying out a soft cheese. I also turned some leftover crowder peas into a pan of “baked beans” for the side. When the day finally slowed, Andy and I fixed our supper plates together and sat down to enjoy the simple blessing of a meal made at home. Find our upcoming events here! https://truegritappalachianways.com/contact-upcoming-events/ Chocolate Ice Cream Recipe (makes about 1-2 quarts) 2 cups heavy cream 2 cups milk 4 egg yolks 3/4 cup sugar 1/2 tsp salt vanilla 1 cup chocolate chips, melted (I used half semi sweet and half milk chocolate) Combine egg yolks and sugar. Add heavy cream, milk, salt and vanilla. Combine. Add in melted chocolate chips, stir slowly. There will be hardened pieces of chocolate throughout your mixture, these are delicious!
