Only Time Will Tell || After the Freeze || March 2026

Today we slowed down and took a walk around the homestead after that cold March freeze moved through. This time of year can be tricky… one day feels like spring and the next reminds you winter ain’t quite done yet. We checked on the fruit trees, the garden, and everything we’ve been tending to see what made it through and what might’ve took a hit. Farming and homesteading will sure keep you humble… but we’re trusting the good Lord and pressing on. We’re thankful for each of you walking this journey with us. ❤️

About This Video

This morning was busy, so me and Jacob hauled a couple pieces of equipment over to a consignment auction—one of my zero turns from the old lawn care days and an old Ford tractor I like a whole lot, but just don’t really need. If they sell, fine. If they don’t, I’m 100% okay with bringing them back home. After that cold March freeze (down around 25° a couple nights), me and Megan slowed down and did what you’ve got to do this time of year—walk the place and see what made it and what took a hit. North Carolina weather in March is a roller coaster, and when everything blooms during an 85° warm spell, a hard freeze will humble you quick. We checked strawberries (some blooms got bit, especially up high in the GreenStalk), peas (they handled it better than folks give them credit for), and the raised beds where kale looked burned but spinach and lettuce are pushing on. We also went tree to tree—peaches, pears, plums, figs, apples, and blueberries—looking for that telltale dark, shriveled damage. I tried the gallon water jug trick in a few peach trees (and left one as a control), and right now I’m hopeful because the blooms still look bright and alive. But like I said in the video… only time will tell.
