About This Video

Hey y’all, it’s Megan, and this video is us living through the days leading up to another big winter hit here in North Carolina—right on top of that ice we already had. I show you just how slick that sheet ice is (you could about ice skate on it), talk about the grocery store being a nightmare, and share how we stay ready around the homestead: hay wrapped up, chicken house wrapped, horses still blanketed, extra water set aside in case the power goes out, and feed runs made before folks really start panic buying milk and bread. As the forecast keeps changing (because that’s just NC weather), we keep doing what we can—feeding, topping off water, and checking on animals. I also tell y’all about helping an elderly friend/customer who’d been stuck at home over a week, because that’s just part of living in a tight-knit community: you take care of your neighbors, especially when the roads are solid ice and nothing’s melting. When the snow finally comes, it’s big, fluffy, powdery stuff—snowing at 18 degrees, which is wild for us. We measure it as it builds, play in it a little (sleds, snow cream, and that boiling-water trick), and I even put my Snowway 8'6" plow to work on my dump truck to keep the driveway passable. By Sunday morning we’re sitting around 6–7 inches, animals are doing fine, and we’re grateful it wasn’t worse—though it sure felt like “Snowmageddon” while it was coming down.
